SUTTON

SUTTON - John Antonio Raposo, 60, died at home in peace, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday morning, July 24th, after a six-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was the husband of Donna (Wojnarowicz) Raposo, and the loving father/stepfather of Gabrielle Raposo of Sutton, and Steven Cove and his wife, Julie of St. Petersburg, FL. He was ‘Vo’ to his granddaughter, Jayden Cove of St. Petersburg, FL. Born on April 29th in the Village of Maia, São Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late João Pacheco Monte Raposo and the late Lidia (Lopes) Raposo.

John came to America with his family at age of 4, and attended school in North Attleboro, MA. He received a Bachelor’s in Architecture and Science from Roger Williams College in 1985 and went on to work for Garofolo & Associates in Providence, RI. He worked at local key design construction firms, but Cutler Associates was his home, where he worked as a Senior Design Project Manager for many years until present. In his free time, John’s passions included woodworking and crafting, taking after his father who was an artist. He spent his weekends in the yard, fixing or creating something beautiful out of nothing with his two Shelties, Ozzy & Ellie, close by. After a day of hard work in the yard, he would be asleep on the couch with a remote in his hand, watching the Patriots and the Boston Red Sox when in season. He had a strong sweet tooth; anything his sisters made were his favorite.

In addition to his wife, Donna, with whom he celebrated his 30th anniversary in May, and children, he leaves his sisters: Guida (Raposo) Chaput and her husband Thomas of Cumberland, RI; and Fernandina (Raposo) Medeiros and her husband Mark of North Attleboro. He was the funny ‘Ti John’ to Mark Medeiros Jr., Christopher Chaput, Kaila Medeiros, and their partners & children; and the ‘Uncle John’ to many nieces and nephews.

The Raposo family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and specialists from UMass and Dana Farber that worked with John through these troubling months. An extended thank you to those who have ever donated blood and continue to donate blood - John received about 100 transfusions that kept him alive during his battle. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Dana Farber or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, to assist others who are undergoing similar struggles.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate and remember John’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 28th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
