SUTTON - Erik Eben Jernberg, 46, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 9th.
He is survived by his two children Nyah and Eben, his brothers Chad, Terry and Todd, and his mother Pam. He is predeceased by his father, Bill. Erik graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and was a successful User Experience Designer with a passion for technology, water sports, music and aviation.
Erik’s love for the water began in his early years growing up on Lake Singletary. His natural abilities on water skis led him to become an accomplished wakeboarder. As much as he enjoyed landing inverts on his home lake and participating in wakeboarding competitions, he took even greater joy in bringing friends out on his boat and teaching them to ski and wakeboard. His knowledge of wakeboarding established him as a well-known authority on the boats, equipment and trends that drove the sport.
Never one to let his mind rest, Erik was a veracious learner. Whether it was the intricacies of nuclear submarines and their wartime tactics, the latest advancements in aviation and aerospace, or the significance of historical figures who shaped cultures, Erik could speak about a wide range of topics in a way that would have you believe he ‘wrote the book.’
Of all the interests Erik committed himself to, none compared to the devotion and adoration he had for his children, Nyah and Eben. From the day they were born, they became and remained the center of his universe. He was an affectionate, proud father who took every opportunity to show love to his kids and share stories about them to friends and others.
Erik was abundantly generous with his love and would give the shirt off his back, expecting nothing in return. His spirit was magnetic. His sense of humor was side-splitting. He leaves an empty space in this world, but especially in the hearts of his family and the many who loved him dearly.
Erik’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19th at 11 a.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury. Burial will follow in Howard Cemetery, Sutton.
