Obituary

MILLBURY / QUINCY - Dorrace Ann (Allen) Delaney, 83, passed away 1/17/2021 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus in Worcester. She had been a resident at CareOne at Millbury due to her battle with Dementia.

Dorrace was born in Boston to Agnes and Bertha (Richard) Allen. Dorrace lived in South Boston from the time she was born until 1961 which was when she and her then husband John J. Delaney, Sr were stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. They returned to South Boston in 1962, where they remained until their marriage dissolved in August 1976. Dorrace then became a single mother to her 6 children and moved her and her children to Plymouth, MA, where they remained until 1986 when most of her children were well into their adulthood. Dorrace became a long-time resident of Quincy, MA, until May 2020 which was when she became a resident at CareOne at Millbury.

Dorrace was a person of many interests including birds, bingo, knitting and crocheting and traveling. She has traveled to many places but her favorite of all was Las Vegas with her oldest son. She was an avid bird lover. She had even named one of them after Boston’s own Larry Bird.

Dorrace had a best friend type of relationship with her Goddaughter who she lovingly called ‘The Babe’ who is also an avid fan of travel. Oftentimes, they went out shopping frequently together and going to fine restaurants.

Certainly, Dorrace’s greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lovingly called her NanaMa. Dorrace spoke to her children on the phone daily especially since 3 of them had lived out of state. Dorrace spent most of her holidays soaking up much wanted time and love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorrace was already missed by many as her illness gradually got in the way of her daily tasks and activities and normal interactions. She will be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her incredible warm spirit, kindness smile, willingness to offer support for any situation and her smiling presence.

Dorrace is predeceased by her beloved parents, Agnes & Bertha (Richard) Allen, her beloved daughters, Denise & Debbie Delaney and her beloved grandchildren Johnny & Jessica Delaney.

Dorrace is survived by her 2 sons, David Delaney, his wife Suzanne (Day) Delaney of Millbury, MA and John J. Delaney, II of Salt Lake City, UT and her daughter, Michelle (Delaney) Sullivan and her husband, Joseph T. Sullivan of Saint Petersburg, FL, and estranged daughter Donna (Delaney) Barnes and her husband, Walter Barnes of New Bedford, MA and 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and her Goddaughter, Dawn Richiell of Nashua, NH.
