SUTTON - Anne Elizabeth Holzwarth, 86, died peacefully with family at her side in the comfort of her home, after a two year battle with cancer, Sunday, November 7, 2021.
She leaves her husband of 64 years, Paul F. Holzwarth, her son Mark Holzwarth and his wife Donna Rizzo of Lincoln, her daughter Sharon Warren and her husband Richard of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, 3 grandchildren, Michael, Samantha and Christopher and his wife Brie, 1 great grandchild, Aiden. She was predeceased by her son Christopher.
Anne was born in Utica, New York, the daughter of Ralph and Rose Harter and graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York. She then attended Syracuse University School of Nursing and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Anne worked as a RN for the Boston Visiting Nurses Association, while her husband attended Boston University. She worked in the Emergency Room at St. Elizabeth hospital until the birth of her son Mark. Anne was the live in Nurse at the Florence Crittendon Home for unwed mothers for two years and she then moved to Northborough, Massachusetts to raise her family. In 1965 she became the school nurse at Millbury High School and worked there for 25 years.
Anne was a member of the Massachusetts Hobby Greenhouse Organization and was one of the founders of the Sutton Garden Club, and a member of the Sutton Historical Society. She performed in the chime choir at the First Congregational Church of Sutton. For over 25 years Anne was a greeter at the front desk of the Sutton Senior Center. She volunteered at St. Vincent radiation oncology, bringing cookies and helping those with cancer to cope. Anne loved gardening and had a greenhouse, loved painting and caring for her cats, playing Mahjong with her friends and traveling with her husband in their motor home.
Family and friends will remember and celebrate Anne’s life with a time of visitation on Wednesday, November 17th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 18th at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Sutton, 307 Boston Road, Sutton, MA 01590.
