William W. Wood

February 7, 1940 — September 5, 2023

William Walter Wood (Bill), longtime resident of Millbury, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side at Blackstone Valley Health and Rehab, Whitinsville, MA on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023.

William (Bill) was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Bernice (Bolivar) Wood and his sister Jean Wood.

Bill leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary (Gagliardi) Wood, who loved him dearly and who cared for him until the end. He also leaves two cherished and devoted daughters: Karen Davis (and her husband Charles Thomas) and Kristin Gould (and her husband Tom). His love, as "Papa Bill", also extended to his grandchildren: Brynn Gomez (and her husband Jesse), Alyssa Morelli (and her husband Dave), Tyler Grant (and his fiancé Sara), Mikaela Sargent (and her husband Michael), and two step-grandchildren - Elliott Thomas, and Brett Gould (by whom he was predeceased), and - the joy of his later years - three great-grandsons, Jesse, Jacob, and Asher. He also leaves his sisters Virginia Lang and Lucille Paré, and two nieces Cindy Williams and Robin Place.

For years, Bill was an integral part of the daily lives of so many people serving as their milkman who became like family. He moved to management and finally retired from HP Hood Dairy. He was an avid gardener and he loved nothing more than having friends and neighbors over to visit and taste that season’s sweet and sour pickles. Hardworking and generous, Bill planted tomato plants on the other side of his fence to share with others.

He also belonged to the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Auburn, Massachusetts. He was a larger-than-life figure - a man of great spirit and he will be greatly missed by his friends, family and community.

Burial will be private at the request of Bill and Mary.
