MILLBURY - Walter A. Bernier, 72, of 1482 Grafton Rd., died Friday, Jan. 11, in the Hospice Residence, Judith Rd., Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 24 years, Antoinette M. ( DeMeo) Murray Bernier; a son, Walter L. Bernier of Brookfield; two daughters, Rosemarie Creaven of Worcester and Jeanne Russell of Shrewsbury; two step-sons, Robert K. Murray and Michael H. Murray both of Millbury; two step-daughters, Donna M. Murray of Millbury and Debra Coons of Holden; two brothers, Edward G. Bernier of Worcester and Joseph P. Bernier of Vermont; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by three brothers, Roland, Robert and Francis.
He was born in Worcester, son of Walter H. and Rolande (Marquis) Bernier and has lived in Millbury for 24 years.

Mr. Bernier was a machinist at Anderson Products, a division of Wilton, for 45 years, retiring in 1992. He then worked for Koala-T-Kouriers of Worcester for two years. He was an Air Force veteran during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, serving as a surgical technician and survival specialist .

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Worcester. He was past president of Local 5565 Steel Workers Union in Worcester and also served the union as financial secretary and grievance person for a number of years. He was a member of Auburn Elks #2118, a life member of the Auburn Century SportsmanTM)s Club and former treasurer of the club. He was an avid bowler and bowled with the Worcester businessmanTM)s League. He was a Worcester County Deputy Sheriff and was a former member the Millbury Zoning Board of Appeals. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Worcester. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, in the funeral home.
