On January 7th, 2006, a light came into this world, a beautiful light that shone for all to see. This ray of sunshine was named Victoria Aime Arrell.
At the mention of her name, there is always a common denominator. Her smile. It was magic. That light-up-a room kind of smile. Simply stunning. It matched her energy. You knew when she walked in. The atmosphere would shift. It had to- it needed to accommodate the amazing soul that entered.
Growing up, Victoria spent a lot of time with family. Her family unit was built strong, and her love of family and friends was profound. She was excited at the thought of being Aunt V to the new addition soon to arrive. There were countless sleepovers with her cousins on both sides and at her grandparents. If she happened to find a ball, it would then be flying across the room. If she couldn’t find a ball, a dinner roll would suffice. Her playful, silly side took great joy in the little pranks she would pull on everyone and anyone. It was easy to recognize her infectious laugh that would surely follow. And it was inevitable that a game of Tag No Tag-Backs would begin at some point when she was around. If you left your phone unlocked around her you may happen across a few selfies of her.
Victoria had a vibrant personality. Her exuberance was palpable. It was likely the reason she was invited to be the face of Papa Gino’s. She had a zest for life that was evident in all she did. She had boundless energy and was always on the go, ready for any adventure. She loved school and also loved learning new things – sewing, cooking, baking, doing crafts. She even helped a family member with sealcoating.
She was an unabashedly fearless woman with a love of rock climbing and skiing, doing all she could to soak up every ounce of life. A true daredevil. She would try anything once. She spent years in kung-fu, becoming a black-belt. She loved to drive – whether it was the golf cart, the Buick around the backyard, until she got her permit and could take to the open road, or a day at the driving range. And every moment was special.
Her soul was good and pure, full of empathy and compassion. She was kindness exemplified. She possessed an incredibly caring nature and made those around her feel cherished. She was someone that bought flowers and passed them out in Target to strangers to brighten their day. If she saw a need for help, she would step in.
You couldn’t be sad around her. She wouldn’t let you. She’d help you through any hardship and lift you up. Victoria was righteous and just-she did not shy away from standing up for what was right. She would confront a bully without a second thought. Victoria was the type that was friends with everyone, having a remarkable ability to see the good in all. She included everyone in a group, making sure that no one felt left out. She didn’t care what anyone thought, and lived out loud. It would likely be impossible to find anyone who could say a bad word about her. She exuded love. It just poured out of her to everyone she crossed paths with.
Victoria had an unrelenting positive attitude, facing every challenge head-on. She was truly an inspiration and role model, an example to all who knew her what courage and strength really look like. She had such an incredible fight inside her. She truly lived, and forced all around her to do the same. Victoria lived life grateful for all she had, not taking anything for granted. Her spirit never wavered. It’s hard to capture in words the beautiful soul she was. Her journey was to be a teacher, which she had already packed into 18 years on earth. She gave so much to the world, and through organ donation continues that legacy.
She leaves behind her parents Michael and Susan Arrell, her sister Isabella Arrell, her grandparents Theresa Parella, James and Lucy Arrell, all her Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends, and Teachers. The hearts she touched were countless. Fly beautiful angel fly. Soar like no other, because there is no other like you.
A special thank you to Dana Farber, Brigham and Women’s, and Boston Children’s for all you did for Victoria and her family. Thank you to Make-A-Wish Foundation for the trip you gifted to them. It was a magical time for them and she truly felt special and celebrated.
