MILLBURY - Thomas J. Markey Jr, 93, passed away peacefully in his home on November 26th surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with lymphoma.
Thomas leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Joan (Cullina) Markey; three children, Thomas J. Markey and his wife Sharon (LaCrosse) of Stratham, NH, Patricia Barrows of Charlton and Karen Markey of Millbury. He leaves behind a sister, Amelia Piermarini of Leominster and sisters-in-law Mary LaCoy and Carol Krumsiek of Millbury. He also leaves 4 grandchildren, Megan (Markey) Goodsell (Christopher), Michael Barrows (Linda), James Markey (Elizabeth), and Daniel Barrows (Amber) and great-grandchildren Ava, Liam, Leah, McKenna, Emilia, Theodore, Myla and another great-grandchild on the way. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Thomas is predeceased by his parents Thomas J. and Amelia (Dufresne) Markey, sister Florence Smith, brother John (Jack) Markey and son-in-law David Barrows.
Thomas was born and raised in Millbury, graduating from Millbury High School in 1951, playing both football and baseball for the Woolies. He spent 2 years in the Army after graduation. He worked for many years for Standard Lock Washer & Manufacturing Co. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots. He loved his cars and never drove anything but a Ford. He was a proud member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Family and friends will honor and remember Thomas’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Thursday, Dec. 4th from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on the same day at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton Street, Worcester with burial to follow in Central Cemetery, Millbury.
