Stephen P. Smith

Stephen P. Smith, 73, of Milford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, with members of his Willow Court family holding is hands.

Born on December 12, 1952, Stephen was the only son of Robert J. and Joan O. Smith and the beloved brother of five sisters. He lived with Lennox‑Gastaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, throughout his life. Despite the challenges of his condition, Stephen faced each day with resilience, determination, and a spirit that endeared him to all who knew him.

Stephen met life’s limitations with grace. Though he was unable to drive, pursue his father’s path in the Marines, or have children, he never questioned “Why me?” and approached each day with optimism and strength. He demonstrated remarkable courage following his terminal cancer diagnosis in January 2026.

A man who valued connection, Stephen had a gift for making people feel seen and remembered. He cherished time spent with his wife of 29 years, Michelle (Pierce); enjoyed fishing; all New England Sport Teams, especially the Patriots; and delighted in Dunkin’ Donuts, his “Sistas,” and the companionship of his friends at Willow Court. During his twenty‑two years there, Stephen found the independence and fulfillment he had long hoped for, becoming known for his humor, kindness, and warm presence.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Michelle; his sisters Meg Gannon (Don), Sharon Theoharides, Joanne Enegess (Barry), Melissa Smith, and Roberta Gale (Bill); twelve nieces and nephews; and numerous great‑nieces and great‑nephews. His family and friends will remember him for his courage, his generosity of spirit, and the joy he brought into their lives.

A funeral Mass will be held on October 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 356 Boston Road in Sutton, Massachusetts.

Stephen’s family extends their gratitude to the staff and residents of Willow Court for the care, friendship, and love they shared with him over the years.
