Shirley Haglund

AUBURN – Shirley Haglund, 76, passed away on April 16, 2026, following a long illness. She died peacefully in Worcester, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in Worcester on July 5, 1949, Shirley was the youngest of nine children. After graduating from Burncoat High School, she pursued further training in accounting and home health care—skills she would use throughout her life to support her family and community.

Shirley’s true talent was her selfless devotion to others. She was a pillar of support for her large family, helping to care for her mother, siblings, nieces, and nephews, and frequently opening her home to those in need. Her commitment to service extended to her community, where she worked for many years as a volunteer election worker and a caregiver for the elderly.

She was a fiercely dedicated friend and enjoyed playing games and spending time with her lifelong social circle. She had a close relationship with her children and grandchildren, and particularly loved spending holidays together. Her faith in God was central to her life, and she was an active, cherished member of her church family.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Reeves and her husband Martin of Chicago and Stephen Haglund and his wife Megan of Auburn; four grandchildren, Zachary, Sadie, Jake, and Abigail; and her sisters, Dorothy Tyler and Rose Sauro.

Family and friends will remember and celebrate Shirley’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Monday, April 20th from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.

Private services for the family and her close friends will be held at a future date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Millbury Baptist Church.
