MILLBURY - Robert “Bob” Wassell, 79, passed away peacefully at Saint Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his loving son and daughter-in-law.

Bob's legacy lives on through his son, Robert Wassell II, and his wife Michelle of Leicester; his brother Richard Wassell and his wife Theresa of Sutton; his brother Walter Wassell of Auburn; his sister Sheila Wassell of Deltona Florida; and his many cherished nieces and nephews. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Michael and Helen Wassell and his brothers David and Michael Wassell.

Born in Worcester, Bob moved to Millbury in his early years. He proudly served as an Airman in the US Navy starting in 1963, where he was stationed in Argentina, Newfoundland. His naval career concluded in The Reserves in 1969. Bob had countless stories from his time in Newfoundland, which he loved to share with anyone willing to listen.

After his military service, Bob returned to Millbury and spent many years as a skilled carpenter, building homes with dedication and care. He later transitioned to a career as a machinist for Bay State Abrasives in Westborough, retiring in 2011 from Saint-Gobain in Worcester.

Bob had a passion for golf and was a proud member of two leagues at Pine Ridge Country Club. His proudest golf moment on the course was hitting a hole-in-one on the fourth hole at Pine Ridge last May. He cherished his annual trips to Myrtle Beach with his son Bob and their friends, where they would golf daily enjoying the beautiful courses and creating memories to last a lifetime. Bob also had a deep love for the beach, especially Hampton, where he would spend hours watching the ocean, playing cornhole, and enjoying precious family time. He was known for sharing his "useless information" that always brought smiles to those around him.

In his spare time, Bob created beautiful "Wood Creations," crafting birdhouses, wells, and planters. He was affectionately known in town as the "birdhouse guy," and his creations can be seen adorning many homes in the area.

Bob's warmth, stories, and creations will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Bob’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Wednesday, Sept. 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.

In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to the donor’s choice.
