Richard Fennelly, Iii

MILLBURY - Richard M. Fennelly, III, 59, formerly of Waltham, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.  Dick was born in Waltham, a son of the late Richard M. and Joan M. (Daggett) Fennelly.

Dick was raised in Waltham, where he graduated from Waltham High School. From a young age, Dick was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed hockey, football and golf, and spent many afternoons on the sidelines coaching collegiate, high school, and youth sports. Dick started his coaching career by helping out at Waltham High and went on to coach women’s softball at Brandeis University. Dick was a loving father of his two boys, Richie and Kyle. He was able to combine his two greatest passions in life, his kids and sports, by coaching them throughout their youth. He was involved in coaching their Millbury Little League and Millbury/Sutton Pop Warner Football teams. Dick frequently participated in various fundraising events for Millbury sports and organized a successful golf tournament to benefit the Millbury Football Booster Club. He was a coach and friend to many, and was always the first to introduce himself and start new friendships. Dick will always be remembered for his zeal and enthusiasm for life.

He leaves his children, Richard M. Fennelly, IV and his wife, Lauren, of Sterling and Kyle P. Fennelly and his girlfriend Katherine Biedak of Plainville; his siblings, Gregory Fennelly and his wife, Rosemarie, of Natick, Karen J. Fennelly of Millbury, and William W. Fennelly and his wife, Laura, of Millbury, and his uncle, William J. Fennelly of Mendon, as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember Dick’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Thursday, Oct. 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.  His funeral service and burial will be private.
