MILLBURY - Raymond J. Tremblay Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2026, at Clover Healthcare in Auburn, Maine.
Ray leaves behind his son, Stephan, his wife, Holly, and his grandchildren, Hayden and Margo, all of Casco, Maine. He is also survived by his loving brothers, Wilfred and his wife Janice of Sutton and Paul and his wife Sandy of Millbury; his grandchildren Krystal and Michael Jr., children of Michael Sr.; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Yvonne M. (Laperriere), and father, Wilfred J. (Chick); daughter, Anne; his sons, Michael Sr. and Raymond Jr., affectionately known as Tubby; and his brother, Roger.
After graduating from Millbury High School in 1957, Ray enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, where he served for six years as a first-class radio operator. During his service, he was stationed on Long Island, New York, and traveled extensively. He was on a ship in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. After the military, Ray worked at New England High Carbon Wire Company before starting his own home remodeling business and snowplowing service. Ray later worked for many years at the Millbury Post Office before retiring.
In his younger years, Ray served as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Millbury. He also bought two apartment buildings, teaching his sons valuable property maintenance and management skills.
Ray embraced retirement with enthusiasm and a love for adventure. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and to many countries around the world. Of all the places he visited, he often said that Bourne Scenic Park on Cape Cod remained his favorite destination. When he wasn't traveling, Ray enjoyed golfing, solving crossword puzzles, and tinkering with projects around the house, where he was happiest.
Family and community were always at the heart of Ray's life. When his children were old enough to play baseball, he became their coach and continued coaching for the Town of Millbury even after his sons had finished playing. His children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. He eagerly traveled to Maine whenever he could to attend his grandchildren's sporting events, proudly cheering them on as their biggest fan. A devoted father and beloved Pepere, Ray treasured every opportunity to spend time with his family.
Ray also enjoyed spending many years keeping the books for Tubby's business, Central Mass. Power Washing. He took great pride in his service in the United States Coast Guard and in being an American. His deep patriotism was evident both inside and outside his home.
In his later years, one of Ray's favorite daily traditions was visiting his “McDonald's gang” breakfast group. He rarely missed his morning coffee and conversation with the guys. Even in the winter, he made sure his snowplow driver arrived early enough so he could keep this cherished daily appointment.
Ray was a lifetime member of the Millbury Historical Society and a proud member of the American Legion for more than 35 years. He was an Adjutant and past Commander of the D.A.V. in Uxbridge. Ray was also a member of St. Brigid's Church in Millbury, where he enjoyed passing the collection basket during Mass.
Ray will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his patriotism, his love of travel, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life. Above all, he will be deeply missed by the family he cherished and the community he proudly called home.
Ray donated his body to UMASS Medical School. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in Ray's honor at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, 59 N. Main Street, Millbury on November 23rd. A celebration of his life will follow the Mass at a location to be announced.
