MILLBURY - Raymond E. Hobin, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully at Care One in Millbury on February 17, 2026.
Ray leaves behind his 3 children Anji O’Malley and her partner Bob Desroches, Kelly Plaud and her husband Jesse, and Raymond Hobin III and his wife Danielle. Lovingly known as Papa, Ray also leaves behind six grandchildren-Connor, Morgan, Jacob, Sophia, Bentley, and Delaney. Ray is survived by brothers William Hobin and his late wife, Pamela, Robert Hobin and his wife Denise, nieces Alicia and Nicole, and many cousins who affectionately called him “Skip”.
Ray grew up in Worcester, the son of the late Raymond Sr. and Ruth Hobin. He graduated from Burncoat High School in 1968. Ray entered the United States Navy in 1969 and became a hospital corpsman at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He worked at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Florida, as well as for the Department of Corrections in North Carolina as a Correctional Health Assistant. He was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in 1973. He worked for many years at Haelen Medical Center as a Medical-Surgical Assistant, and then alongside his brother Bob as a landscape gardener for R.L. Hobin Company until his retirement.
Ray was a proud firefighter for 36 years for the Town of Millbury, holding many roles within the department including training officer, captain and retiring in 2015 as Assistant Chief. He took great pride in the brotherhood of the department and made long-lasting friendships. After his retirement, he could still be seen with a coffee, cigarette, and his camera in hand, waiting for the next call.
Ray will be remembered for being a kind and soft-spoken gentleman, an amazing Dad and Papa, and forever our hero.
The family would like to thank the staff at Care One of Millbury for their kindness and wonderful care of Ray.
Family and friends will honor and remember Ray’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Friday, Feb. 20th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 21st at Noon in St. Brigid Church, 59 N. Main Street, Millbury. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church. Burial will be private.
