SUTTON — Lisa A. Morton, 61, of Sutton, passed away peacefully at the Jewish HealthCare Center in Worcester, where she was cared for over this past year during her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born February 4, 1965, in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Warren F. Johnson and Helen (Jakstis) Austin. She was also predeceased by her sister, Betty Ann Hedlund and her stepfather, Carl Austin.
Lisa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and educator who brought love and kindness to everyone she met. She leaves her husband, Robert J. Morton of Sutton; three children, Robert J. Morton Jr. and his wife Jessica Tully of East Hampton, CT, Daniel W. Morton and his fiancée Merry Leo of Woodstock, CT, and Sarah A. Scott and her husband Forrest Scott of East Hampton, CT; and six grandchildren, Logan, Rowan, Arlo, Jane, Ashton, and Damon.
She also leaves her sister, Susan Varin and her husband Edward Varin of Sutton, her brother-in-law Paul Hedlund of Dudley, MA, and her sister Penny Morway and her husband Timothy of Burlington, VT, as well as many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
Lisa worked for many years at Paul Revere/Unum Provident Insurance in Worcester before pursuing her passion for education. She later taught third and fourth grade at Killingly Central School in Killingly, CT.
She earned her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in education from Eastern Connecticut State University and an associate degree in medical laboratory technology from Anna Maria College. She was a graduate of Oxford High School.
Lisa enjoyed singing at church and occasionally at weddings, as well as knitting, needlepoint, and gardening. She especially loved growing plants, including once growing temple orange trees from seeds, and now they are with her son Danny.
The family thanks the caring team at the Jewish HealthCare Center for their compassionate care.
A private celebration of life ceremony for the family will be held at Mulhane Home for Funerals in Millbury.
Her ashes will be scattered at a later date in Saco, Maine, where the family spent many summer vacations.
