Lawrence J. Lamothe

January 19, 1936 — October 23, 2023

NORTHBRIDGE

On Monday October 23, 2023, Lawrence J. Lamothe (87), loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at his home after a brief illness.

Larry was born on January 19, 1936 in Grafton, MA to George F. and Margaret L. (Kamaitis) Lamothe.  He graduated from Grafton High School, attended Trade school and served in the US Army Reserves. In 1957 he married his high school sweetheart & bought a home in Northbridge, MA.  He held many titles in his life, from coach to owner, but his favorite roles were devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He retired as a mechanical construction supervisor with New England Power at the age of 57.  During his retirement, he & his wife travelled through the lower 48 states and Canada, exploring their shared passion of visiting national parks, hunting dinosaur fossils, collecting rocks and minerals throughout the country & spending time with dear friends along the way. Their treasures were shared with many, including the Worcester Rock & Mineral Club where they were honorary lifetime members.

He was known for his infectious smile, sense of humor & kind heart.  He always made people laugh and feel welcome in his home, especially at his famous New Year’s Eve parties.  He enjoyed a variety of music from Country to Polka to Jimmy Buffet. When Larry & Carol danced the waltz, they were mesmerizing as they floated across the dance floor so effortlessly. Devoted to his “Queen” Carol, he was supportive & the biggest cheerleader to his children who were the light of his life, as well as his 2 grandchildren who made his circle of life complete. He loved spending time on Cape Cod, enjoying camping, fishing & metal detecting.  After 23 years of digging Herkimer Diamonds in New York, at age 72 decided it was time to retire his sledgehammer.  For the last 20 years, winters have been relished in Boca Raton, Florida.  During the summer, Lake Manchaug was a favorite spot for family cookouts & boating.

Larry is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Carol (Picotte) Lamothe in 2018, and son Mark Lamothe in 1979. He is survived by three children, Bruce Lamothe (Tami) of Sutton, Ann Lamothe of Boca Raton, Florida, Jane LaBarre (Arthur) of Northbridge, two grandchildren, Collin & Lauren Lamothe, sister Phyllis Rzewuski (Raymond), brother George Lamothe and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by his sister Theresa (Lamothe) McKinnon & husband Robert, sister-in-law Tallea (Windle) Lamothe, sister-in-law Nancy (Picotte) & husband Ronald Harney, brother-in-law Ronald Picotte.

Now reunited with his dance partner & forever soulmate.
