Janet Lucia Cassidy

MILLBURY - Janet Lucia (Norbeck) Cassidy, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep in home hospice on Thursday, Feb. 8th.

Janet’s husband, James Joseph Cassidy, passed away in 2023. Janet leaves her son, Mykael S. Cassidy and his partner Patrik Tirda; her daughter Erin M. Cassidy-Sibley; her son and daughter-in-law Matthew J. Cassidy and Elizabeth J. Cassidy; her granddaughter, Rachel L. Salois and her husband, Donald K. Salois; grandson Bruce Heelan, and great grandson, Cayson K. Salois.  She was predeceased by her parents, Howard Charles Norbeck and Virginia (Peppin) Norbeck , and sister Marcia A. Norbeck. 

Janet graduated from Millbury Memorial High School in 1960 and went on to work at the Millbury Credit Union. Later she was employed by the C. D. Whitney Insurance agency, but she was best known and beloved as the long-term Director of the Millbury Housing Authority where she touched lives and forged numerous friendships throughout the greater Millbury area. 

Janet loved to cook- especially to bake, to read and to settle down for a nice British Mystery or The British Baking Show with a box of Good ‘n’ Plenty at hand. She was a fortitude of serene strength for all the generations of her family; philosophical, wise, wry, generous and giving of her time, love and resources to a fault, and always of good humor no matter what the stresses at hand. Beyond all else she was a fierce and fearless mother and joyful friend. She will be missed tremendously by many.   The Cassidy family would like to extend deepest heartfelt thanks to Salmon Home Care.

Family and friends will remember Janet’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Saturday, Feb. 24th from 1 to 3 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury. Burial will be private.
