James Michael Couture, Sr. “Jim” (65), of Sutton, died at home on Friday, March 20, 2026, after a full and adventurous life. He was surrounded at the time of his death by his loving and devoted family and friends.
Jim was the son of Conrad Couture and Elaine Beaudoin Lustgardern. He is survived by his uncle and aunt, Raymond and Sandra Beaudoin of Northbridge. He was a loving husband and is survived by his wife of 32 years, Patricia (Smith) Couture. He was a devoted father to his four children: his only son, James Couture Jr. and his wife Shelby (Piekarczyk), Dr. Nicole Wagner and her husband Dr. Marc Rigatti; Kristen (Wagner) Osterman and her husband Jonny; and Jennifer Wagner and her partner Brian Montigny. He was the son-in-law of Gretel Smith and leaves his brothers-in-law, Dr. Thomas Smith and his husband William Glazer, and Peter Smith and his wife Robin, along with their children. Jim also leaves many cherished grandchildren: Olivia Hammond, Avery Montigny, Sophia, Amelia, and Emmett Rigatti; Levi, Maisie, and Navy Osterman; and Colin Couture. Jim leaves many devoted and loving friends that adored him as well.
Jim grew up in Whitinsville and graduated from Northbridge High School. He worked various jobs throughout his life and truly loved what he did. Most of Jim’s career was spent compounding plastics; prior to that, he worked as a bartender at Mechanics Hall in Worcester and Tower Hill Botanical Garden alongside his wife. His career began at Coz Plastics in Northbridge, where he worked for most of his life, and later continued at Plastics Color Corporation. Jim concluded his career as Vice President of Specialty Compounding at Chemres (Benvic Group).
Jim loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. He was also an exceptional bowler and competed on many winning teams. He loved all sports and participated in fantasy football with his friends. Without question, Jim cherished his family and was always planning the next vacation or outing to bring everyone together as he loved traveling. He especially loved his pets, who were his constant companions, and he will find his final resting place alongside his beloved dog, Opie.
Even though Jim spent a great deal of time in the cold, he always appreciated finding a warm, sunny spot—often during visits to Florida with his family. He was blessed to see his son find love and marry, and to meet his most recent grandson, Colin, before his passing. Jim will be missed tremendously by his family and, without question, would have wanted more time with them. He fought a courageous battle and will never be forgotten.
Jim’s calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24th at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25th at the First Congregational Church of Sutton, 307 Boston Road in Sutton. Burial will follow at Howard Cemetery in Sutton.
