Jacob V. “Jack”, “Jake” Kungoian
DUDLEY - Jacob Kungoian passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025 in the home of his daughter and son-in-law after a long, brave battle with cancer.
Jake grew up on the family farm in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High in 1959. His strong work ethic was learned from his parents Vartan and Nazeli (deceased) who immigrated to America during the Armenian Genocide. In his early years, Jake worked in construction for Johnson Brothers of Auburn and retired as a maintenance engineer from the former State Mutual Insurance Company in Worcester. While in his mid-twenties, Jack was diagnosed with his first of many types of various cancers. Lucky for those who knew and loved him, Jack lived another sixty years as a survivor:)!
Jack was predeceased by wife, Janice, in 2021 and his first wife, Barbara, in 1975. He was predeceased by Janice’s son, Paul Rogers, Jr., in 2020.
Although Jack never had biological children, he always considered and treated Janice’s children as he treated her- with love, respect, and kindness- and as his own. Jack is survived by his daughter Linda (Rogers) Luthman and her husband, Russ of Worcester. His sister, Sonja Berg and her husband, Charlie, of Oxford. His grandchildren, Ali Luthman Wheeler and her husband, Kevin, of Dudley and Zack Luthman of Palm Desert, CA and Worcester. Jack was recently blessed to be able to hold his infant great-granddaughter, Josie lovingly in his arms just a few days before making his way to heaven. Jack is also survived by his nephews Steven and Michael Scerra, niece Karen Nolan, and Barbara’s son, John Dunkerton and his wife, Doreen.
When Ali and Zack were young, Jack was always present, alongside Grammie Jan, at whatever event the kids were participating in- be it school or league sports, theater groups, or a backyard pool party. Jack loved family vacations to the White Mountains and Old Orchard Beach along with the Barton family. He really enjoyed those day trips to the Casino with his buddy, Neil.
A calling hour will take place on Wednesday, August 6th from 9:30 to 10:45 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury. Jack’s final resting place will be alongside Janice and Paul, Jr., at the New Howard Cemetery in Sutton.
Please omit flowers. If you desire, donations may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church (Scholarship Fund) 200 Greenwood Street, Worcester 01607.
