Evelyn L. Spry

FITCHBURG- Evelyn L. (Stewart) Spry, 79, passed away on Sunday April 20, 2025 at Leominster Hospital after a period of declining health. She was born in Boston, Ma on November 17,1945.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Richard L. and Gladys L. Stewart Sr. and her brother Jack B. Stewart. She is survived by her brother Dr. Richard L. Stewart, Jr. and her sister Margaret R. Robbins (Dennis), both of Sutton. She is also survived by her nephews Andrew J. Stewart (Mary) of N.H. and Lee Stewart of MA. Her niece, Kara Stewart (Peter Moroney) of Sutton was a big help to “Lyn” (as she liked to be called) in these last few years. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Britta Stewart of Gulfport MS.

Originally from Somerville Ma., Evelyn started her education at the Brown St. School. She moved to Sutton in 1955 and Lyn went on to excel in her studies. She played the flute and piccolo in the concert and marching band. She won high honors consistently. Science fairs were a yearly competition and she won several times earning the honor of exhibiting her project at WPI. She graduated in 1963 and went on to UMass Amherst earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She was very proud to be in the marching band at UMass.

After graduating with her Masters, jobs in this area were not plentiful in her field of expertise. She moved to California and worked at Ft. Ord for a private contractor on missile projects. She moved back to Sutton due to health issues and eventually made Fitchburg her home for the last several years.

Services will be held with her brother's, Jack Stewart.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday May 3rd from 10 to 11am followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11am in the First Congregational Church of Sutton, 307 Boston Road Sutton, Ma 01590. Burial will follow in Howard Cemetery, Sutton.
