The world lost a little sparkle this week with the passing of Elena M. Kerr of Millbury. She was a mother, grandmother, and friend whose zest for life made everyone feel just a little bit better. She worked to remind us that warmth and love are what life is truly about.

Ellie was the devoted wife of the late Dennis Kerr, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage filled with laughter, adventure, and deep affection until his passing in 2008. Their love story continues to inspire those who knew them both.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Amato and Teresa Mastromattei and carried forward their values of kindness, gratitude, and grace.

She was known for her mental dexterity and even quicker hand when it came to a game of Bananagrams. Her son, James Kerr of Cromwell, Connecticut, learned early that love sometimes comes with a healthy dose of humility — especially when Mom could spell victory faster than he could find a vowel.

With her beloved daughter Lisa Ryan of Dudley she never missed the chance to enjoy a raw bar and the delicious conversations that always came with it. Together, they toasted life — its triumphs, its heartbreaks, and the endless beauty of being together.

With her grandson Dylan, she shared the simple, almost magical truth that life’s greatest pleasures sometimes come from unexpected combinations — like dipping marshmallows into a jar of peanut butter. To her, that was the essence of joy: sweet, a little messy, and better when shared.

Her granddaughter Haley will forever remember the joy of sharing margaritas that tasted like sunshine and laughter. The two of them perfected the art of the slow sip and the long story — a combination that made time stand still.

She will also be fondly remembered by her caring daughter-in-law, Irene Kerr, and her equally devoted, son-in-law, Daniel Ryan who both loved her dearly and were blessed to know her warmth, humor, and generosity of spirit.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her terribly but will forever be guided by her spirit — one that believed in savoring the small things, celebrating every connection, and always, always adding a little extra salt to the rim.

Her life is a reminder that love is best expressed through laughter, shared meals, and games played with heart. She didn’t just live — she delighted in living. And for those lucky enough to have been loved by her, the world will always feel a little warmer.

Rest well, Mom. The tiles are shuffled, the drinks are poured, and your family is smiling through the tears — just the way you’d want it.
