MILLBURY

MILLBURY – Edward J. Cornell, 70, affectionately known to all he loved as Ed, unexpectedly passed away at his home in Millbury on Tuesday, June 25th.

Ed grew up in Westboro, MA, and went on to earn an Associate’s from Quinsigamond Community College, a Bachelor’s from Worcester State University, and a Master’s from Syracuse University Newhouse School of Public Communications where he pursued his passion for the film industry.

Ed started his career working in film at the DI Group in Boston. He was the Evening Operations and Traffic Manager then made the move to California where movies are made. Immersing himself in this industry he loved, he first worked for Todd-AO as a Post-Production Scheduler until he took a job at Technicolor as a Post-Production Manager where he worked for many years. While in CA, he made many friends with whom he stayed in touch including John Beam, Robert Trott and his family, and Erik Hedlund and his family. Ed left his work in California to return to MA where he devoted his life to his family who brought him the greatest pride and joy.

Ed was a great conversationalist with an amazingly quick wit and a sharp mind. He always took great interest in everyone he engaged with. His devotion to his friends was remarkable. At the Whitinsville Community Center, he loved his “pool pals,” and they him. He was introduced to the Millbury Senior Center by his neighbor and great friend, Jo Ann Dunn, with whom he attended so many events, had so many laughs, took many adventures, and created wonderful memories. Ed’s sense of humor was so enjoyed by all who knew him—he brought laughter and joy everywhere he went.

Ed’s family will miss him beyond belief. He leaves his beloved sister, Maribeth Cornell of Vernon, VT; his loving brothers, Paul T. Cornell of Charleston, SC, and Richard Cornell and his wife Connie of Grafton, MA; his nephews Eddie Harrigan Cornell of Dorchester, MA, and Jack Lawrence Cornell of Somerville, MA, Rory Cornell of Spain, and Ian Cornell of Milford, MA, his cat, “Kitty,” and many loved cousins with whom he shared so many memorable times. His family is so grateful for all the years, memories, wisdom, and love they shared during Ed’s impactful life. He is now in heaven welcomed and embraced by his mother, Mary; father, Edward; and brother, Rob.

Ed made a difference in all the lives he touched, and his love will live on in all of us. He was a beacon of humility, warmth, humor, knowledge, thoughtfulness, and kindness. Ed made all of us feel special, and we had the great joy of knowing and loving him.

Family and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Ed’s life on Monday, July 1st from 4 to 6pm. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury. At 6pm, prayers and memories will be shared, followed by a light reception to celebrate Ed at Calabria Ristorante, 7 South Main Street, Millbury.
