Donald Orrell, 92, of Millbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8th at Brookdale Eddy Pond West in Auburn, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Donald is predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Jean M. Orrell (Brenner) and his son Keith Orrell of Upton. He also leaves his two sons, Gary Orrell of Charlton and Scott Orrell and his wife, Cheryl of Oxford; eight grandchildren and seven (soon to be eight) great grandchildren.
Don was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. He worked for Wyman Gordon as a product engineer for 44 years.
Jean and Don spent years volunteering at the Shriner’s Hospitals, The Boston Burns Hospital and the Springfield Orthopedics Hospital. They also spent several years volunteering at The Masonic Learning Center for Dyslexia in Worcester. Don also spent several years volunteering as a member of The Central Mass Search and Rescue Team alongside his son and grandsons.
Don was very active in the masonic fraternity, belonging to Morning Star Lodge and Boylston Lodge. He was a 33 Degree member of the Supreme Council and a 60 year member of the Scottish Rite. Don was a member of The Aleppo Shriners and the Worcester County Shrine Club.
He was an avid golfer with the Greendale Retired Men’s Club.
Family and friends will remember Don’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Monday, Dec. 15th from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.
His funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 16th at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Millbury with burial to follow in All Faith’s Cemetery, Worcester.
The family asks that flowers be omitted, and donations be made to the First Congregational Church of Millbury, 148 West Main Street, Millbury, Ma 01527.
