MILLBURY - Donald P. Desorcy, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024, after a 5-year courageous battle with cancer.
Donald was born in Worcester, MA, the son of the late Armand and Doris (Gibeau) Desorcy. Donald graduated from St. John’s High School, in Shrewsbury MA, class of 1974. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA in 1978. In 1982 he received his Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Clark University. He served the town of Millbury Police Department for 42 years. In 2021 he retired from the Millbury Police department as the Chief of Police. Donald was very proud to have served on the department in every role. He was hired as a patrolman, promoted to sergeant, then was the town’s first appointed lieutenant, and finally became chief in 2015. After retiring he continued as a Special Police Officer. In 2021 Don was awarded the Humanitarian Award from the Millbury Lions Club, and Millbury’s Man of Distinction in 2023 from the Millbury Old Timers.
Don is survived by his wife of 39 years Michelle (D’Auteuil), his daughters, Christine Desorcy and her partner Jim Quinn, Kathleen Colon and her partner Marcus Neeley as well as his grandchildren George and Nora. Don is also survived by his siblings, Diane (Ray) Tremblay of Worcester, MA and Denise (Jim) Collins of Auburn, MA, brother-in-law Armand White of Millbury, his mother-in-law, Pauline D’Auteuil of Millbury, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Monique D’Auteuil and Alex Buko of Worcester, MA, brother-in-law Paul D’Auteuil and his partner Christine Lisien of Haydenville, MA as well as several aunts and uncles, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Dolores M. White, father-in-law George D’Auteuil Sr., and brother-in-law George D’Auteuil, Jr.
Donald was a longtime member of Assumption Church in Millbury. He loved spending time with his family, especially his 2 grandchildren. He enjoyed helping others with any project they may have had. He was proud and honored to serve the Millbury community which he loved.
Family and friends will remember and celebrate Don’s life with a time of visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2nd, at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N Main Street in Millbury.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 10 Waters Street in Millbury. Those wishing to attend the funeral Mass, please go directly to the church. Burial will follow at Central Cemetery, Millbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any of the Millbury Food Pantries: Millbury Federated Church 20 Main Street, Millbury Senior Center, 1 River Street, or St. Vincent De Paul, 59 Main Street. All are in Millbury, MA 01527
