Donald C. Conlon, a devoted husband, loving father, and pillar of the Sutton community, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. After a long illness, he is now at peace and reunited with his beloved wife of 59 years, Karen J. (Cooper) Conlon, who he missed dearly since her passing in December 2024. He was a devoted husband to Karen, a loving father to Carl, Philip, Jeffrey, and Lynn-Ann, and a source of strength and guidance for his entire family.
Born in Worcester on April 5, 1945, to Thomas and Marguerite (Irons) Conlon, Don was a man defined by his unwavering work ethic and dedication to helping others. For over 30 years, he was a proud Teamsters Union Local 170 truck driver, recognized for earning an incredible 1.8 million miles of accident-free driving. After retiring, he continued his commitment to safety, serving for 27 years with the Sutton Auxiliary Police. He also channeled his mechanical skills into car repairs and a small engine repair business, where he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren his craft.
Don's true passion was community service. He was a proud member of the firefighting brotherhood, serving for 25 years as a volunteer firefighter and ultimately achieving the rank of Lieutenant with the Sutton Fire Department. He was honored to serve alongside his sons, Jeffrey and Philip, and son-in-law, Ethan McMahon, and was incredibly proud to see his dedication carried on by his grandchildren who also serve as firefighters. Don also played a key role on the building committee for two of the town's fire stations.
A man of integrity and deep friendships, Don was an active member of the Olive Branch Masonic Lodge. He loved working on cars and proudly restored a 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle with his family and friends. He also enjoyed woodworking, lawn care, building truck models, and traveling the country with his wife and cherished friends.
Don's legacy is carried on by his children, Carl (Barbara), Philip, Jeffrey (Lynn), and Lynn-Ann (Ethan) McMahon; his cherished grandchildren, Benjamin (Hallie Sacks), Jacob (Jamie), Bridget, Hannah (Patrickmorgan) Donovan, Jared (Marissa) McMahon, Kayla (Sulayman Coulibaly) McMahon, Nathan McMahon, and Makenna Barron. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Lukas, Riley, Griffin, Rhys, and Rowan. He is also survived by his brothers, Thomas, Paul, and Russell Conlon, and was preceded in death by his brother, George Conlon.
The family invites friends to a period of visitation on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
