Clair R. Mosher

MILLBURY - Clair R. Mosher, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16^th  surrounded by loved ones. She was the daughter of the late William R. and Frances M. (Clair) Mosher. 

Clair was pre-deceased by her brother William R. Mosher, Jr., her sister and and brother-in-law Eleanor M. (Mosher) and Leonard A. Martinsen, her niece Linda M. Martinsen, and her nephew Michael P. Martinsen. She also lost many close friends over the years, most specifically Joyce Letourneau, Dot Platts, and Nancy Jones. 

Clair spent most of her life in Worcester before moving to Millbury in 2018. She attended Worcester Public Schools and was in the South High graduating class of 1953. She is also a graduate of Clark University, Worcester, MA 

Clair began her working career in 1953 as an Actuarial Clerk at the former State Mutual in Worcester. She said, “I hated math but was good at it.” Clair remained at State Mutual (now Hanover Insurance) until her retirement as Director of Underwriting Services. She said, “It was tough climbing the corporate ladder but worth every minute, well maybe not every minute.”

During her youth and into her adult life Clair was an avid sports fan and participant. She excelled at basketball, golf and softball. At a time when women’s sports were not as popular as today, she played softball for high level teams and travelled the country to play. She also played in ladies golf leagues at the former Clearview Country Club and Leicester Country Club.

Clair leaves many friends to carry on the memories, including close friends Gail Letourneau, Nancy David, Jane Malley, April Mellen, Richard Greene, and Jeffrey Snyder all of Millbury. She also leaves her “adopted nephew and niece” Gerard and Nancy Martinsen of South Carolina.

A visitation gathering to remember and celebrate Clair’s life will be held on Wednesday March 20^th from 9:00 to 10:15 AM at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main St., Millbury. 

Her Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Loreto Parish, 37 Massasoit Rd., Worcester. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester.
