Carol A. Langevin

January 10, 1935 — April 24, 2025

MILLBURY

Carol A. Langevin (née Russell), 90, of Millbury, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born on January 10, 1935, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to Robert H. and Lillian (Benson) Russell. She lived a rich and meaningful life, often reminiscing about joyful summer vacations on Cape Cod and at the lake.

At the tender age of ten, Carol’s father passed away, a loss that altered the course of her young life. She entered foster care through the Worcester Family Friends Society and spent time with Jack and Georgia Foster in Lancaster, Massachusetts. After the death of her Jack, she went to live with Hilding and Eva Nelson in Leicester, where she found the warmth and stability of a loving home, growing up alongside her four foster brothers.

Carol was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an active participant in The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She graduated from Leicester High School and began her career at State Mutual Life Insurance Company. Her life took a beautiful turn when she met her future husband, Roland Langevin. They married in January of 1959 and made their first home in Grafton before settling in Millbury in 1964, in a house Carol adored.

A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Carol took great pride in her home and gardens. During spring, summer, and fall, she could often be found outdoors, tending lovingly to her flowers and yard, her happy place.

Carol and Roland shared 64 years of marriage, during which they raised four children and many beloved pets. In 1974, Carol embarked on a new chapter as a driving instructor, a role that suited her outgoing personality and passion for connecting with people. She found great fulfillment in teaching and meeting new students, continuing in the role until the age of 80.

Carol was a loving and devoted mother to her children: Beth Marr and her husband John of Sturbridge; Lisa Fisher and her husband Dan of West Bridgewater; Paul Langevin and Scott Langevin, both of Millbury. She was a proud grandmother to Chris, Jay, Nick, Shelby, and Anna, and a cherished great-grandmother to Tabitha. Carol’s boundless love extended to many others she considered grandchildren, including Brian Rydant, Kaylee Miraglia and Alexander and Chris Fisher.

She had a special gift for making others feel loved and important, an extraordinary quality she shared freely with everyone she met. Carol was often described as a guardian angel, a second mom to many, and the best grandmother ever. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She maintained close bonds with her extended family, including sisters-in-law Marguerite Boutiette of North Grafton and Jeanette Bruso and her husband James of Millbury, as well as many nieces and nephews. She also remained connected to her foster brothers: Robert Nelson and his wife Louise of Ruskin, Florida; Paul Nelson and Lavenia of Leicester; Gary Nelson and his wife Carol of Spencer; and James Herman of Ruskin, Florida. Carol is also survived by maternal cousins Donna Pray and her husband Frederick of Kansas, Janet McMillen of Colorado, and Betty Giordano and her husband Vincent of Colorado. Her dear friend of 53 years, Barbara Pariseau, held a special place in her heart.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, Roland Langevin, in 2022; her parents, Robert H. Russell (1945) and Lillian (Benson) Russell (1956); and her foster parents, Hilding and Eva Nelson.

Carol lived life with joy and curiosity. She found happiness in gardening, shopping, playing cards, traveling, bowling, completing jigsaw puzzles, reading, spending time at the beach, and above all, being with her family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street, Worcester, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s name to the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, 11 French Drive, Boylston, MA 01505 or charity of your choice.

May her generous spirit and loving memory live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
