Carl Licopoli passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a long illness. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his five children: Julie Licopoli, Michael Licopoli, Beth Licopoli, Marisa Jennifer, and Carlo Licopoli; his grandchildren, Madeline Conover, Nicholas Logie, Ian Logie, and Margaret Logie; as well as four great-grandchildren. His beloved wife, Anne, predeceased him in March 2015.
Carl is also survived by his three brothers: Frank Licopoli; Fernando Licopoli and his wife, Katherine; and his youngest brother, Lorenzo Licopoli and his wife, Yvonne; as well as his sister-in-law, Marci Wade, and her husband, Leslie. He also leaves his cousins in Italy and will be missed by several nieces and nephews, as well as the partners of his three daughters.
Carl was born on Long Island, New York, to Carlo and Adele Licopoli, who both emigrated from Italy. His father, Carlo, was a shoemaker, and his mother, Adele, was a homemaker and an excellent cook. He grew up in a close-knit Italian family, enjoying large Sunday dinners with family and friends. After his wife’s passing, Carl began cooking more and would occasionally try to replicate his mother’s meatballs and sauce.
After graduating from Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, New York, Carl attended Villanova University, where he graduated in 1958. While at Villanova, he met his future wife, Anne, who was a student at nearby Immaculata College. They were married in 1959. He served his country in the U.S. Army in France from 1959 to 1961.
While working for Mobil Oil Corporation, Carl was transferred to Massachusetts. In 1969, Carl, Anne, and their three children at the time moved from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Sutton, Massachusetts, where they established deep roots in the community. In 1972, he joined the sales team at Ingersoll-Rand, an air compressor equipment company in Southborough, Massachusetts. He eventually became Sales Manager and retired in 1998. To celebrate his retirement, he and his three brothers took a trip to Italy to visit his father’s family in the Calabria region.
He was an active member of the Sutton Lions Club for over 45 years. He received the President Award in recognition of exceptional leadership and devoted service by the Lions Club of Massachusetts 2000-2003. Carl was also deeply involved in town government, serving as Town Treasurer, Selectman, and later as Town Moderator from 1999 to 2014. His final service to the town was as a member of the Sutton Sewer Commission.
A proud Villanova graduate, Carl was an avid fan of the basketball team. Golf was his sport, and until the past few years, he could often be found on the course, playing several times a week.
Over the past decade, Carl was a familiar presence around town—you could often find him having breakfast with friends at the Sutton Center Country Store, attending the 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Mark’s Church, or volunteering at various Lions Club community events. He especially enjoyed the Chain of Lights and Waters Farm Day. Though his health was declining, he was grateful to attend Waters Farm Day this past October.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 365 Boston Road, Sutton, followed by burial at Pigeon Hill Cemetery in Sutton.
A reception to remember Carl will be held following the burial at Calabria Restaurant, 7 South Main Street, Millbury, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.
