Edward "Ed" Morrissey

MILLBURY – Edward F. Morrissey, 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 26th in his home, surrounded by his family.

Ed leaves his wife of 39 years, Holly J. (Swenson) Morrissey; three sons, Matthew W. Morrissey and his wife, Jenna of Douglas, Kyle E. Morrissey and his wife, Stephanie of Worcester and Neal D. Morrissey and his fiancé Darcy Cronin of Millbury; a brother, William F. Morrissey and his wife, Linda of West Boylston.  He is predeceased by his mother, Mary F. (Spillane) Morrissey. 

Ed was born, and grew up in, Worcester. He graduated from the printing department at Boys Trade in 1961. He excelled at baseball, earning many accolades including Telegram and Gazette All City Team and was selected High School MVP by WTAG. He also earned tryouts with the Houston Astros and New York Mets in 1961. Trained as a camera operator, and being an ardent history buff, he worked at The American Antiquarian Society for Readex Microprint, on Salisbury Street.

Still an avid baseball fan, and memorabilia collector, long after his playing days, Ed enjoyed visiting, and camping in, Cooperstown, NY with his wife, sons and dogs. Ed shared his love of baseball with his brother, William, and took many trips to Florida for Spring Training in his younger years. Ed coached his son’s baseball teams; Whitney Insurance of Millbury Little League, The Millbury Merchants and the Millbury Jr/Sr High school varsity team. His most cherished moments came from coaching his three sons and watching them play sports. He was also a Holy Cross men’s basketball season ticket holder dating back to the 1950’s.

Family and friends will honor and remember Ed’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Thursday, Nov. 7th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street in Millbury.  Burial will be private.
