William Mita

January 24, 1924 — February 7, 2003

NEW BEDFORD - William Mita, 79, of 119 Somerset St., formerly of Worcester, died Friday, Feb. 7, in his home, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 50 years, Ellen A, (Hamilton) Mita; a son, Stephen M. Mita of Worcester; two daughters, Christine C. Sylvain of Newington, Ct. and Susan M. Mita of East Hampton, Long Island; a sister, Virginia Puzar of Cupertino, Ca.; five grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Walter, Charles and Zigmont Mita and one sisters, Zenobia Braley, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Joseph and Zofia (Karecka) Mita and has lived 10 years in New Bedford. He graduated from the former Commerce High School in Worcester and then from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1950.

Mr. Mita an electrical engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, Tennessee. for ten years, retiring in 1988. He previously worked for General Dynamics in Groton, Ct., Sylvania now GTE in Waltham and American Steel And Wire Co. In Worcester. He was an Army veteran During WW II serving in Europe.

He was a member of St. MaryTM)s Parish in New Bedford and the International Electrical Engineering Association and a former member of St. JosephTM)s Retreat in Charlestown.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 11, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury ( www.mulhane.com ) with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigids Church, 59 Main St., Millbury. Burial will be in St. Brigids Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb 10, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Hawthorn Cancer Center, 480 Hawthorn St., North Dartmouth, Ma. 02747-3713 or to Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, Ma. 02720.
