Susan Dwinell

March 13, 1919 — July 6, 2009

MILLBURY – Susan E. "Sue" (Willis) Dwinell, 90, died Monday, July 6th in her home ending a 30 year journey with Multiple Sclerosis.

Her husband, Richard J. Dwinell died in 2004. The couple were married on July 14, 1947 at Saint Paul's Church in Worcester. She leaves a daughter, Suzanne M. Dwinell of Millbury; three sons, Richard J. Dwinell and his wife Mary Ann of Fitzwilliams, NH; James M. Dwinell of Millbury, John D. Dwinell and his wife Debra of Oxford; six grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, Haley, Alexandra, Cody and Jake Dwinell; many nieces and nephews. Susan was born on March 13, 1919 and is predeceased by her parents, Leroy and Mary Ann (Brady) Willis and a sister, Marguerite Martin who died in 1999.

Mrs. Dwinell attended St. Paul's Elementary School and graduated from the former Commerce High School in 1937. She was a secretary at Heald Machine Co. of Worcester. Susan was a member of the Women's Defense Corp during WWII. Following her marriage to Richard, she moved to Millbury and devoted her life to her husband, children and community. Susan stayed at home so that her husband could serve his community as a member of the board of selectman for the town of Millbury for thirteen years and a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives for eighteen years. She has been a member of St. Brigid Parish for the past sixty-three years. She was a CCD teacher and a member of the St. Brigid Catholic Women's Club. Susan was a Camp Fire Girl Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother, when her children were growing up. She was also a member of the Millbury Democratic Town Committee.

The Dwinell family would like to thank UMASS Memorial Home Health and Hospice for the exceptional care and support given to our mother over the past twelve years. We would also like to thank the faith community of St. Brigid Parish for their ongoing support.

Her funeral will be held Friday, July 10th from the Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 59 Main St. in Millbury. Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 9th in the funeral home.
