Barbara N. (Nelson) Swenson, 83, died Monday, July 3rd at Care One at Millbury.

She is predeceased by her husband, Frederick O. Swenson, her parents, Waldemar and Emily (Kasparson) Nelson and a brother Raymond Nelson.  She leaves three sons, Karl F. Swenson and his wife Karen of Millbury, Brett N. Swenson and his wife, Peggy of Millbury and Steen K. Swenson and his wife, Dahnyel of Worcester; six grandchildren, Eric, Brian, Timothy, Scott, Molly and Brieana Swenson; a brother, Richard Nelson of Mashpee; nephews and nieces.  She resided in Norwich and Vernon CT before moving back to Millbury and eventually settling in Sutton at her lakefront home, Lou-Olin on Manchaug Pond. 

Mrs. Swenson was an avid artist and painter for many years.  Her paintings were shown throughout the Blackstone Valley area in numerous art shows, during her lifetime.  She worked as a figurine painter at Vaillancourt Folk Art for several years before she retired.  She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Nordic Lodge of the Vasa Order of America, the Red Hat Society, the Worcester Outdoor Sports Club, the Worcester Art Museum, the Blackstone Valley Art Association, the Millbury Women’s Club, the Anna Circle at Trinity Lutheran Church and the Friends of the Millbury Public Library and the Asa Waters Mansion.  She enjoyed collecting antiques, artwork, and dolls as well as knitting.  She will be remembered as a lovingly kind and giving person who loved her home, her children and her grandchildren.  The family would like to thank the staff at Care One at Millbury for their care and compassion.    

Barbara’s funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday July 8th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St. in Worcester.  Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday July 7th at Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main St. in Millbury.  Burial will be in Central Cemetery in Millbury.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St., Worcester, MA 01609.
